Suthers Laboratory Animations of the Syrinx
Roderick Suthers pioneered research into the workings of songbirds' y-shaped voicebox, the syrinx.
The Suthers Laboratory at the Indiana University School of Medicine has designed multimedia presentations of how the cardinal and the brown-headed cowbird use their dual voiceboxes to sing internal duets using the two branches of their syrinxes simultaneously.
