Rusten's Shared Radio Awards

Rusten has shared awards as part of two collective radio projects.
Field Notes From 1995 to 1997, a collective of radio science writers in and around Santa Cruz, California, produced "Field Notes", a weekly natural history radio series on KUSP-FM. Rusten produced about 15 shows touching on the natural history of the Monterey Bay area, with topics ranging from brown pelicans to banana slugs to slime eels. In 1996, Field Notes won a Community Radio Award (Local News/Public Affairs) from the National Federation of Community Broadcasters.

DNA Files In 2001, Rusten worked on "The DNA Files: Series 2", a 5-hour production on topics in current genetics. Each hour had a theme and began with a 5-minute short feature on some aspect of the theme. Rusten produced a short feature on "Human Cloning" for the "Genetic Medicine" hour. DNA Files II won the the 2001 George Foster Peabody Award and a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Award for Excellence in Health and Medical Programming.
